Give love today. It doesn’t even matter whether you are hurting, give love. Life is an echo, what you send out comes back to you, multiplied. Your energy will always be reflected to you.
When you are faced with something negative, the quickest way to dissipate that negative energy, heal your subconscious, and connect with higher ideals, is to respond in a diametrically different way:
When you are criticized, praise someone.
When you are hurt, love someone.
When you are discouraged, encourage someone.
When you are afraid, reassure someone.
By doing so, you attract blessings. You heal a wounded part of you. Realize the behavior of the abusive person is not about you. It’s about them. Don’t give them fodder to feed their narcissistic ego. Whoever tries to bring you down is already below you. Why wrestle with them? It takes greatness to lift up others.
Jesus taught, ‘Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you.’
Any fool can fall in love but only the wise can stay in love. I’ll be teaching tonight at The Node on the subject, Love Never Fails. But you can’t give what you don’t have…
During the famous balcony scene of the play Romeo and Juliet, Romeo begins to pledge his love for Juliet with these words: “Lady, by yonder blessed moon I swear. That tips with silver all these fruit-tree tops.” However, Juliet cuts him off: “O, swear not by the moon, the inconstant moon. That monthly changes in her circled orb, lest that thy love prove likewise variable”
Juliet had it right. Love should not wax and wane; it should be steady and constant, a perpetual light in a dark world. There is nothing mercurial about love. It is not based on whims, feelings, or passing fancies. Love is rock-solid, intent on benefitting the one loved, regardless of the cost. God’s love never fails, and it never ends.
“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is Love – 1 John 4:8.” “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him – 1 John 4:16.”
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV).
